Delaine running day cancelled – Bourne museum remains closed for season

The Delaine Heritage Trust has cancelled this year’s Delaine Heritage Bus Running Day and has decided that its museum in Bourne will remain closed for the rest of 2020. North London & Essex Events has also cancelled an indoor event in Barnet.

The Delaine Heritage Trust, which looks after the heritage of the long established south Lincolnshire independent operator, says: “In the interests of the wellbeing of our volunteers and visitors, in view of the layout of the museum and the strict requirements for social distancing, it is with deep regret that the Delaine Bus Museum will not re-open for the remainder of our 2020 season. We are currently planning to re-open at the beginning of our 2021 season in March.”

Its planned open days on Saturdays 8 August, 12 September and 10 October will not now take place.

Nor will the running day, when the trust’s immaculately preserved Leyland and Volvo vehicles operate in service between the company’s home town of Bourne and the market town of Stamford. That was planned for Saturday 26 September – the day before the revamped Showbus Flyby event along a stretch of the A40 in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

North London & Essex Events had intended to hold an indoor event in Barnet on 5 September, but says that social distancing restrictions have made it impractical to go ahead with it. It has provisional plans for a similar sales event in Theydon Bois on 3 October and hopes to learn next week whether or not it can still proceed.
