Cumbria Easter Rally cancelled – back next year

The popular and scenic Cumbria Easter Rally at Kirkby Stephen and Brough has joined the long list of events cancelled to comply with government guidance on containing the coronavirus pandemic.

Announcing that the event planned for 11/12 April will not take place this year, the organisers say: “In light of the most up-to-date government advice about the spread of the Covid-19 virus, it is very apparent that the Cumbria Easter Rally, even though open air, is sadly in the high-risk category for events/gatherings due to the number and large age range of the visitors over the course of the weekend, with the youngest members of society being potential carriers of the and the older ones being the most vulnerable to it.

“We receive well over 10,000 visitors in the course of the rally and given that and the increasing scientific evidence and advice available about the spread of the virus, as organisers we must take our role seriously.

“The health and safety of all those involved, whether as visitors or exhibitors or volunteers, is of the utmost importance to us and it is with regret that we have to advise that this year’s event will have to be cancelled. The event will continue in the future, but this year’s cannot realistically be held in the current circumstances.”
