First sets up trust to retain significant vehicles
FirstGroup has established a trust to restore and preserve significant vehicles as they are taken out of service from its UK bus fleet.
The FirstGroup Heritage Trust has taken ownership of four buses in the group’s founding fleet, First Aberdeen, but hopes to look after others from throughout England, Wales and Scotland. These buses are kept at the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford, but the trust hopes to form similar relationships with regional museums in other parts of the country as notable vehicles are retained.
‘We don’t want to take over anything already being done well locally, ‘ says trustee Gordon Mills. ‘We don’t want to discourage locals from doing what they want to do with an affinity for the past.’
